Week 8 - North Long - 8/27/2020

It was tight at the top, but it got even tighter after the event on North Long. One point...yes, one point separates first and second, as team dickhead held on to first by the foreskin of their teeth. Mark and Luther are sitting there just licking their chops going into the last two events, as Rice and the WFC have always been big point nights this time of year. I looked back, and as far as I can see, this is the closest it's ever been this late in the year.

Jamie and Chuck pulled off their second win of the year, while Troy and Brent had the biggest fish catching a 30 inch pike. Congrats guys.

Now for a bit of a rant. North Long SUCKS! For the fifth year in a row, it is by far our lowest point night, and as far as I can tell, no one likes fishing it. It's full of weeds, the fish are few and far between and the recording at the landing needs to have a shotgun taken to it. Replacement lakes were mentioned last night like Cedar and Little Boy, but it would be nice to keep it closer to home since we already have Thunder and Roosevelt. We used to do Gull twice, so that's a possibility. Other lakes that come to mind are East/West Fox, Sylvan, Bay, Borden, Ossie, or Upper Hay. Anyway, think about it. Gull would be the easy choice.

We are fishing the next two weeks in a row as we wind up the season already. I hate that the days are getting shorter, but life moves much quicker these days than it used to.

I'll see you on Rice on next Thursday the 3rd from 4-8:00.

Week 7 - Thunder - 8/13/2020

Hello losers! That's right, everyone, with the exception of junior net boy that isn't writing this right now, is a loser. That's because you didn't win the inaugural Thunder Rumble and we did! Junior net boy, Matt Werneke in for senior net boy Jim Gardner and I, never even made a cast on Thunder, yet we kicked everyone's ass! How do you say? Us older and more experienced fisherman, when confronted with the task of trying to figure out a new lake in just three short hours, have long known it's best to keep your bait wet and cover as much water as possible. You don't do that by seeing who can run from spot to spot the fastest like rabbits being chased by a fox, no, you take the turtle approach and troll. That's right, troll. It's a lost art on younger less experienced fisherman, but it's the cats ass when fishing new water to try and figure out where the fish are. You should try it sometime, and if you only use your trolling motor, you save a bundle on gas. Winning is great...I could get used to it real fast.

Speaking of winning, team Dickhead has held on to first place as team Asshole slipped to third. Mark and Luther have moved into second only six points behind the leaders, so this thing will come down to our last night I do believe.

From what I heard the night we fished Thunder, it sounds like we'll be going back next year as everyone seemed to like fishing it. It's a beautiful lake with plenty of undisturbed shoreline. Now if they would only grade the road to the landing every now and then!

North f'n Long is up next from 5:30-8:30 on the 27th, so I'll see you losers then.

Week 6 - Rabbit - 7/30/2020

Well boys, it's tight at the top. There are only five points separating the first three teams, so at this point it's anyone's game. There are a few other teams lurking as well, so one of them could grab the lead with a good night.

Team asshole walked away with the win on Rabbit, and the team of Mark and Luther nabbed the big fish pot. Congrats guys.

For the second week in a row, the league scored 156 points. That's never happened before, especially on two totally different types of water.

Thanks Steve for taking care of the points and dropping off the scoring sheets...much appreciated.

Thunder is up next on the 13th, so I'll see you then.
